This training program provides the tools you need to identify drivers whose OSA puts them at increased risk for crashes. You’ll also gain an understanding of treatment options and how to properly qualify commercial drivers diagnosed with sleep apnea.

This course will help examiners use their judgment to detect, suggest treatment options and provide certification options for commercial drivers who have been identified with OSA.

Unfortunately, there is not a current rule or Advisory Criteria/Guidance from the FMCSA specifically on OSA. Until a final rule is approved by the FMCSA, examiners will still be expected to use their best judgement to certify that commercial motor vehicle drivers are medically qualified to operate a CVM under 291.41 (b) (5).
